2017-2018 Welcome Back Letter from Mr. Wooldridge

Dear Saffell Street Families,

I want to officially welcome all of you to the 2017-2018 School Year! For those of you who are new to our school, I want you to know that you are coming to an absolutely wonderful place. Our teachers and staff are passionate, caring, hardworking, and always learning something new for the benefit of your children. We are a collaborative and driven group of people who take learning seriously while also making personal connections that help kids succeed.

I am thrilled at the opportunity to get to know all of you this year and engage in the educational process together. I believe that building strong relationships between home and school is a key factor in increasing student achievement. As principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. I strongly believe that parental involvement is an essential component to student success, as research continues to show strong correlation between increased involvement and high student success.

I would like to welcome the following new staff to our building:

Catherine Watwood

Music Teacher

Kathryn Walston

3rd Grade Teacher

Jill Barrows

School Psychologist

Each new staff member comes highly regarded from previous positions, and we feel fortunate to add them to our team. You will have a chance to meet your classroom teacher during our Home Visit Blitz on Monday, August 7th, 2017 from 8:30-5:00. There are no specific times for visits. Instead, if a family is not home when a teacher visits, a backpack with information packets will be left at the door with contact information included. Our Home Visit Blitz is an effort to help teachers and staff build relationships with students and their families. For students, the meeting is a way to get to know their new teachers before they step foot in the building. Research shows parent, guardian, and community support is the most important way to improve student achievement. When parents are involved, it says, students have higher grades, better attendance, and higher levels of motivation, among other benefits.

If you have moved over the summer, please contact the front office (502-839-3565) or Central Office (502-839-3406) to make that change in infinite campus.

School Hours: 7:55am-2:55pm

In the interest of safety, please do not drop off your children before 7:20 AM, as there is no supervision before that time. Students should not be dropped off at the front of the school. All Car riders should be dropped off on the cafe side of the building for morning drop off.

ARRIVAL TIMES:

Our school day begins at 7:55AM every day. Please be sure to have your child/children here on time. Students who are consistently tardy are at a clear disadvantage and usually arrive feeling frantic and unprepared. All students who arrive after 7:55am must sign in at the office with a parent.

School Supply List:

School supply lists for each grade level are available in the office and also posted on our school’s facebook page and website.

Newsletter-

Each month we will send home a newsletter telling you what’s happening at Saffell Street. It will also be available on our school website.

DATES TO REMEMBER:

16th Annual Anderson County Back to School Family Fun Fest Thursday, July 27th 6-8 at Anderson County Middle School

Monday, August 7th Home Visit Blitz

Wednesday, August 9th First Day of School For Students

I look forward to working with you and your child. We can’t wait to meet you!

Todd Wooldridge
