SCHOLARSHIPSWhile most other scholarships focus exclusively on academic achievement or leadership potential, Horatio Alger Scholarships are also intended for promising students who have critical financial need, demonstrate integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, and are determined to succeed.

Good Morning KYACAC Members, The KYACAC "Achieve Your Dreams" Scholarship was named after a dear friend, colleague who had a positive and lasting impact on our profession - Kimberly D. Merritt. High School Seniors are asked to complete the KYACAC 2024 Kimberly D. Merritt "Achieve Your Dreams" Scholarship Application by the deadline of Friday, February 23rd. The application does require students to submit in 500 words or less an essay about someone who has impacted or inspired their college admissions process and state why they were beneficial in their journey into higher education. One $1,000 award will be given to each of the four regions in Kentucky (Northern, Central, Eastern, Western). The students receiving the award will be invited to attend the KYACAC Conference in Owensboro, KY during the Scholarships, Awards and Closing Lunch on Friday, March 15th. Do you know a graduating high school senior who is looking for scholarship opportunities to continue their education?
We are pleased to extend the Hamilton Relay Scholarship opportunity to seniors in Kentucky who are deaf, hard of hearing, DeafBlind or have difficulty speaking.
We would appreciate your assistance in sharing the scholarship application with eligible students. All candidates are required to submit an application, write an essay under the topic of communication technology and provide a letter of recommendation in order to qualify.
The scholarship deadline is January 31, 2024, and applications must be received or postmarked by that date. The scholarship is in the amount of $500, and the winner will be determined on or before March 1, 2024. |

For juniors, seniors, and their parents who are taking Dual Credit Classes: KHEAA has loaded the data file recently submitted by your high school for dual credit scholarship programs. Students should see a link on their MyKHEAA accounts to set scholarship preferences. The attached PDF contains step-by-step instructions for the student process. Please forward this information to your students and encourage them to set their preferences ASAP. The deadline for students to submit preferences for the spring semester is March 1, 2024 Note- For the 2023-2024 year, students need to know if they are taking a General Education course or a Career and Technical Education (CTE) course before they set their preferences. The regular Dual Credit Scholarship (DCS) only covers General Education dual credit this year. All CTE dual credit must go under the Work Ready DC program. Students in grades 11 and 12 are eligible for two DC scholarships for the 2023-2024 year. Students should see a DCS set preference link on their MyKHEAA account. If students anticipate taking spring coursework, KHEAA recommends they go ahead and submit both fall and spring preferences this fall in order to make sure they have funds reserved for spring. Students in grades 9-12 who are taking CTE dual credit should see a set preference link for Work Ready Dual Credit. Those students are eligible for two WKDC scholarships this year, the same as before. Please note the following tips for setting DC/WKDC preferences: - Students will NOT be awarded scholarship funds until after they submit their preferences.
- Now that links are available, please reach out to your dual credit students to encourage them to go to KHEAA’s website and set preferences. KHEAA will periodically send a reminder to students regarding the need to set preferences. However, we’ve found everything works much better if the high school is reaching out to them too.
- Students will NOT have a DC/WKDC preference link if they are missing a KEES account. KHEAA uses the KEES database to obtain the full SSN for dual credit data. This could include students who are new to your school, have recently moved to Kentucky, or do not meet US citizenship requirements (allowed for DCS, not KEES). KHEAA is working on the errors and will be in touch if we need additional information for them.
- If students cannot see their DC link after signing in to their MyKHEAA account, please see if they can view their KEES account before contacting KHEAA. If KEES is NOT visible, the student may have registered for their MyKHEAA account with an SSN that does not match KHEAA’s data. They will need to contact KHEAA technical support at 800-818-2678 to have their MyKHEAA account fixed. If KEES is visible and DC links are not, please contact me immediately.
- Students who do not have an SSN will NOT have DCS/WKDC preference links in MyKHEAA. Students missing an SSN have to be loaded manually by KHEAA staff. Email me with the student’s name and their college and semester choice for each applicable scholarship program.
As a reminder, high schools will have a dual credit summary report available to help track student activity for the 2023-2024 year. The report is available each Wednesday morning and can be accessed by your district’s KEES coordinator. Each week’s report will tell you if KHEAA has received data for a specific student, if the student has set their preference, the college selected, and, after funds go out, the course that has been paid.
