Good morning y'all! We have had the AP registration site open for a while now, but as far as I know, none of the virtual AP students have registered for the classes. This is a two step process and the absolute deadline is October 30th. I've attached directions on how to do this, as well as all of the join codes they will need. Ashlee and I will be glad to help with this in any way we can if there are any questions. We just really need to get this information out to the kids or they are going to miss out on taking their AP exams.

Dear Counselor,

Whether your students are back in school, learning remotely, or participating in a hybrid model, we know they're working closely with you on their journey to college. The College Board Opportunity Scholarships program was created to help your students complete steps for college while earning the chance at scholarships. Encourage your seniors to sign up for the program at cb.org/opportunity for a guide to college and a path to scholarships.

The first step in helping your students earn scholarships is to take the College Board Opportunity Scholarships pledge. When you sign up for the pledge, you'll receive a free digital toolkit as well as monthly reminders and resources.

Take the Pledge

Most students need financial aid to help pay for college. By completing the FAFSA®, students might qualify for thousands of dollars in federal grants, work-study, low-cost loans, and state and college scholarships. There's no other way to gain access to this money.

Encourage your students to complete the FAFSA and earn a chance at a $1,000 scholarship.

Completing the FAFSA is an urgent and important step—not just for accessing financial aid, but for staying on track to enroll in college. Research shows that 90% of students who complete the FAFSA enroll immediately in college—versus only 55% of students who don't file.

Between October and February, the College Board will award $800,000 to seniors who complete the FAFSA.

Tell your students to visit getfafsahelp.org for instructions on how to sign up for Wyatt?, a free FAFSA assistance chatbot that answers their questions by text. When students sign up for Wyatt and text their financial aid questions, Wyatt sends answers via text, a familiar medium that doesn't require internet access. Wyatt is available 24/7.

Seniors: Complete the FAFSA

Scholarship Tip: Complete the FAFSA for a Chance to Earn $1,000 for College

Thank you for your commitment to your students.

Sincerely,

College Board

NACAC Virtual College Fairs
OCTOBER FAIRS:
Monday, Oct. 12 and
Sunday, Oct. 18

Dear Bobby,

The next NACAC Virtual College Fairsare happening soon! Would you let students and families in your community know?On each fair date, more than 600 colleges and universities will offer Zoom sessions and meetings. Students everywhere can log in, drop in, and ask questions.

These fairs offer an unparalleled opportunity for students to explore their college options! Thank you in advance for your support.

NACAC Virtual College Fairs team

Feedback From the First Student Fair
More than 18,000 students and families participated in the Sept. 13 NACAC Virtual College Fair. The response was so great that the virtualcollegefairs.orgsite was temporarily swamped with people trying to attend. We're working hard to make sure the next virtual fairs run flawlessly from the start.

We've enjoyed the comments from students who participated. In fact, 76 percent of participants rated the fair as Excellent or Good.
"This was fun!"

"Thank you for providing us all with an opportunity to speak to so many schools!"

"Honestly I really loved the platform, I was able to connect with colleges that I probably would have never known about."

"As a high school counselor I found the virtual fair extremely organized and very easy to navigate. I will continue to advertise this fair as I feel it is the best one I have attended. I am confident my students will benefit greatly from attending the future events. AMAZING job!"

How-to Video and Guide
Share this short video and this quick start guide with students. Each provides an overview of how students can make the most of their fair experience. (P.S.: A newer version of the video will be uploaded on Monday.)

Students are encouraged to sign up at virtualcollegefairs.org and look around several days before each fair date. They can click the "Remind Me" button when they see a Zoom session that will be offered by a college that interests them. The reminder will get added to their "My Schedule" tab and they'll receive a text when the session is about to start.

List of Exhibiting Colleges
To find out which colleges will be at each fair, students can use the search and filter features on the virtualcollegefairs.org site or they can download these lists: Oct. 12, Oct. 18, and Nov. 8.

Promotional Kit
Please check the Counselor Resources page for social media graphics and sample text.

Additional Learning Opportunities
NACAC also offers Zoom sessions at each fair, too. These are general, 30-minute information sessions called NACAC Meet-Ups. Here are the meet-ups scheduled for Oct. 12:PNC Bank provides sponsorship support and is offering the following informative Zoom sessions on Oct. 12:Bridging the Gap
A Note For Counselors: Because of disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, colleges and universities are not able to easily reach high school juniors and seniors with information about their programs, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities in the way they have in the past.

NACAC, for the first time, is helping to bridge this gap and facilitate connections between students and higher education institutions by offering student registration lists to eligible US colleges and universities for a nominal fee. Students participating in the fall season of NACAC Virtual College Fairs are asked to opt-in during the registration process.

We welcome your feedback about this initiative. Please feel free to contact us at [email protected].

HiCynthia,

We’re excited to announce that the 2021 Profile in Courage Essay Contest for high school students is now open! You can learn more here.

We encourage you to write a 1,000 word essay describing a leader who demonstrated political courage as described by President Kennedy in his book, Profiles in Courage. Winning essays tell the stories of courageous lawmakers who stood up for what was right rather than what was easy or politically convenient. Today, as students like you are learning virtually or are back in the classroom, it’s clear that times are different. Our country is depending on leaders to demonstrate political courage — which is why your essays about inspiring choices are so important.

This year, you can win one of 15 scholarship awards for college, including a $10,000 first-place prize. Find out more about the contest here.
All essays must be submitted before January 15, 2021 — so don’t wait! We look forward to reading your essay and learning about a time when a leader’s political courage inspired you. If you are no longer a student, we hope you will share these details with someone that could benefit from this opportunity.

Best wishes,

Esther Kohn
