Hola Parents & Students,
Welcome to Spanish class! I am so excited to have you in my class this year. My name is Mrs. Baxter and I will be your Spanish teacher for this trimester. I want to welcome you, and hope you have a bright and shining attitude towards Spanish this year. Many students judge Spanish as difficult and confusing before they walk through the door. I just want to say, learning a new language can be fun, confident-building, and even open your eyes to other subjects of interest.
I have many fun learning activities planned this year. My teaching style is anything but traditional. While I expect the students to be attentive to the lessons, complete assignments, and fully participate…they will also see a new style of learning this year. They will be singing, dancing, rapping, doing karate moves to remember important patterns, communicating, and did I mention lots of “acting”. The students will get to be interactive, hands-on, and practice all their newly found knowledge in real-life settings. Think about how you learned English? My goal is to create that same experience when learning your second language.
A little bit about myself is, like said before, I am a former graduate here at ACHS. I graduated from University of Kentucky with a Bachelor’s in Spanish and received a Masters in Teaching from Asbury University. I married my high school sweetheart, Brandon Baxter, who is also a former graduate of ACHS and of University of Kentucky. We have one super high-energy 2 year old named Brody. He keeps me on my toes! We also have a fur-baby named “Baxter”…wonder where that name came from?! This is my 6th year teaching!
My door is always open to students for help and tutoring. I do ask that students give me a heads up on makeup work, taking quizzes/tests, or additional tutoring request beyond my scheduled tutoring days so I can make arrangements. Parents, I am here for communication at anytime. Please don’t hesitate to shoot me an email to ask about your child’s grade, performance, or simply just to check in. Feel free to call me here at the school at 839-5118 ext. 2528 and email me at [email protected]
I am looking forward to this year and so excited for the many memories of learning we will make in Spanish class! GO BEARCATS!
Mrs. Baxter
