Emily Doolin

Bienvenidos a todos,

I am looking forward to having you in my Spanish class this semester. I hope to make this year of studying a foreign language an exciting and memorable experience for you.

Why Study Spanish?

Foreign language study is essential today not only to meet the requirements of higher education institutions, but also because of the expanding global economy and ever increasing job opportunities requiring one or more languages other than English. Rapid expansion of international business creates a need for more knowledge of international cultures as well as proficiency in foreign languages. In order to prepare our future leaders to be competitive, students must develop communicative competence in languages. Learning a second language has also been shown to increase critical thinking skills, reduce your risk of developing dementia and Alzheimer's, increase your circle of friends, help foster a sense of empathy for others, and give you access to a wider variety of entertainment. Spanish is also very similar to English, making it one of the easiest foreign languages for you to learn!

How Will We Learn?

This school year, I will provide opportunities for you to develop the ability to communicate about ourselves and our immediate environment using simple sentences containing basic language structures. This communication is evidenced in all four language skills – listening, speaking, reading, and writing – with emphasis on the ability to communicate orally and in writing. We will begin to study important phrases, basic verbs, descriptions, and will begin developing a foundation for understanding and studying Spanish grammar. Emphasis will be on learning to communicate in the target language with frequent use of paired practice, role plays, music, games, projects, and small group work to practice and encourage language production and development. Students will also learn about world geography, countries where Spanish is spoken, and Hispanic culture.

About Me
You can find more in my About Me section on the right!
I am not originally from Lawrenceburg, but I married an ACHS grad-- Josh Doolin! He played soccer and ran track for the Bearcats circa 2012. We just moved to Anderson County with our fur baby, Nacho. I graduated from the University of Kentucky with my BA in Spanish and MA in Teaching World Languages and English as a Second Language. I've been teaching in Anderson County for a few years now and taught at ACMS first before becoming a Bearcat. You might remember me from your time as a Mustang! This is my 9th year teaching Spanish! I expect this to be an exciting and fulfilling semester in your foreign language experience, and I am looking forward to working with you (again for some of you!). On the right, you can find links to documents for each of my classes. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Go BEARCATS!

Con cariño,
Sra. Doolin :)
